Covid-19 Lateral Flow (Antigen) Testing
When the body detects the presence of antigens it triggers an immune response. The immune system initiates the production of antibodies to ‘bind’ the antigens and stop the invading pathogens from attaching to healthy human cells.
Lateral Flow (AntiGen) testing detects ‘active’ infection during the acute phase of Covid-19. It is a reliable test which detects the presence of the ‘SARS-CoV-2 Nucleocapsid Protein Antigen’ in the nasopharynx – the nasal passage or around the tonsil area at the back of our throats – where the virus is known to harvest.
Our professional health technician will use a swab to collect mucus from either the back of the throat or the inner nostril. The swab is then combined with a buffer agent, which will break down any antigens in the sample. A few drops of the specimen are then added to the test cartridge for analysis. There are simply two outcomes to a Lateral Flow (AntiGen) Test; positive or negative.
NB: Recent administration of the Covid-19 vaccination will not cause a positive test result.

What to expect

Interesting fact… The ‘Ag’ abbreviation of the word antigen stands for ‘Antibody generator’.
